A heart of correction

Proverbs 12:1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.

We are never perfect in whatever we do. Every person needs to be corrected. The Bible is our book of correction. Every scripture is given to us to correct our lives.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Correction keeps us out of ignorance. Proverbs 15:5 A fool spurns (rejects) his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence. Things you cannot see in your life are seen by people around you. If you receive correction, you will be out of ignorance. It makes you aware of the dangers ahead in your life.

Correction keeps us prosperous. Proverbs 13:18 He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored. Most of the times people take their own decisions and they think it is good for them. However, God sends a warning through various means, and if we are not sensitive to those warnings and do not correct ourselves we will fail. The Bible says the wise pay attention to these warnings and they become prosperous.

Correction keeps us in God’s will. Pr 10:17 People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray. If we have an open heart toward correction, it will keep us in God’s will. We will never go astray.

How does God correct me? Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. The Word of God corrects and directs a child of God. It may be through reading the Word of God that God corrects us. We can also be corrected when we are listening to a sermon being preached. Be sensitive and you will understand it. Sometimes we can be corrected by others whom God brings in our life. Never rebel, never be offended when God is using others to correct us. Finally, some are corrected by God himself. When we do not listen to the warnings that God sends in our lives, God decides to correct us himself. When God corrects us he will correct us in measure the Bible says. God’s correction may sometimes be painful but God corrects us out of his love for us. Jer 30:11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet I will not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.

Many of us have problems dealing with correction. When someone corrects us we usually point fingers on their shortcomings. If we feel they have to be corrected do that at a later time. When others are correcting us better listen to them, understand we have a problem, deal with our fault. Secondly, we must be willing to be corrected by anyone and make sure we have no bitterness or resentment in our heart toward the person who corrects us.

We all need correction. Let us ask God to correct us. Ask God to send us people in our lives who will guide & correct us and keep us in check with God’s plans and ways. If you have been bitter with anyone for pointing out your mistakes forgive them right now. Understand they are sent by God to keep you in God’s plan. Ask God for a clean heart and a corrective spirit because correction will keep you out of ignorance, make you prosperous, and will keep you in God’s will. Amen!

Have a good day.
