An Indescribable Gift

We all like to receive gifts. When someone gifts you something it is always a great feeling receiving and opening it. When was the last time someone gifted you something? Well, this is Christmas season and you can expect a lot of gifts. People give and receive a lot of gifts this season.

In fact, the very first Christmas started with gifts. The wise men from the east gave gifts to Jesus, the child. It was a costly gift for a great God; gold, incense, and myrrh. Though these gifts were costly we can describe the gift in just 3 words: Gold, incense, and myrrh.

Have you ever paid attention to the gifts people give to others to express their love? If you pay attention to the gifts people give it is gold, silver, perfume, property, vehicles etc. All these gifts can be described by human understanding. This evening I would like to speak to you about the greatest gift ever which can never be described.

2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! The Bible speaks of a gift, an indescribable one. The real gift of Christmas is Jesus Christ and this gift cannot be described by human understanding. Do you know the gift of Jesus Christ is available even today and that makes our Christmas even more meaningful?

What makes the indescribable gift of Jesus so special?

Why does the Bible tell him as the indescribable gift from God to us?

I feel the answer is: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

  • The indescribable gift is the love of God. Every one gifts out of love, when you fall in love you gift. No one gifts out of hatred. God loves you and he gifted his son Jesus for you and me. God is love and He is the greatest lover of all times. Our family, friends, lovers will fail but Jesus Never Fails. God loves you and that is why He sent his son, Jesus into this world.
  • The indescribable gift is the giving nature of God. Once anyone is in love he gives, sacrificially. God not only loved but he gave, yes he gave Jesus. God gave what was close and dear to him, Jesus. Jesus gave his life for you. Jesus is the greatest giver.
  • The indescribable gift is the self sacrifice (death) of Jesus. The worldly lovers (Father, mother, relatives, lovers etc) they love, they give. They do not go beyond giving. The indescribable nature of God’s gift is that he not only loved us or gave his son for us to come into this world; he let his son die for you and me. Jesus even gave his life for you and me. No lover will give his life. Jesus went one step ahead and even died for you. Through Jesus there is eternal life. Jesus is the greatest saviour and salvation is the greatest gift through Jesus

That is why Paul said, “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” Yes, Jesus is indescribable. The gift of Jesus is the greatest gift we can ever receive in life. It is free and available to anyone who believes in Him. If you open your heart and receive him he will come to you. Jesus will change you, bless you, love you, and guide you. The significance of Christmas is Jesus the indescribable gift.

Maybe some of you have received Jesus years ago. Maybe you have opened the gift of Jesus and kept it in your shelf. Maybe you are too busy to give Jesus the time he needs and he is full of dust lying in your shelf. Take him into your heart and life today. He is the answer that you are looking for.

Understand Jesus is an indescribable gift and Jesus is God himself in his fullness.

This Christmas let us receive him into our hearts. God Bless You!
