Self-esteem is how we see ourselves – our thoughts, our perceptions and attitude towards our self. In other words, it is the confidence we place on our own worth or abilities. It is the judgment (emotional evaluation) of oneself that also bears on the attitude towards self. This also has a great deal to do with our wellness. According to Eric Erickson, (1993, 1994) self-esteem begins to develop between the ages of 18 months to 3 years and continues to develop between 6 to 12 Continue reading →

Finding a marriage partner is one of the most important decisions of life, second only to accepting the Lord as your Saviour. For, “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD” (NIV – Prov. 18:22). Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife (NIV – Prov. 21:19); Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife (NIV – Prov. 25:24). The wise woman builds her Continue reading →

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. True Continue reading →

Millenium 1000 years of glory

Isaiah 11:1-10 (NIV) I want you to imagine with me the most beautiful greenery you have ever seen. It is a beautiful spring day. There is a cool breeze flowing through the garden. There are no storm clouds on the horizon; instead there is beautiful golden sunshine. As we gaze upon this scene we see a happy family gathered there for picnic. The father is there in all of his strength of his youth. Today is his 90th birthday, and his wife and his children Continue reading →

Illustration on Hope.

The story is told of millionaire Eugene Land, who greatly changed the lives of a sixth-grade class in East Harlem. Mr. Lang had been asked to speak to a class of 59 sixth-graders. What could he say to inspire these students, most of whom would drop out of school? He wondered how he could get these predominantly black and Puerto Rican children even to look at him. Scrapping his notes, he decided to speak to them from his heart. “Stay in school,” he admonished, “and Continue reading →

Resurrection Illustration

One day a father and his daughter were out for a leisurely drive in the country. It was a hot summer day and the windows were rolled down. Suddenly the daughter began screaming in her seat. You see, this girl was very allergic to bee stings. In fact, even one sting could send her Continue reading →

The Basic Christian

We often hear the call to return “Back to the Basics.” Whatever their particular vocation in life – whether they be surgeons, cricketers, pastors, or parents – all people seem to have their favourite “basics” that they tend to fall back upon. As Christian believers we too have our set of basics, but what do we usually mean when we call ourselves “Christians?” Is it our name that tells people whether we are Christians? Not really, you would say, for you could come across a Continue reading →
